2nd Anniversary: C’River NPC Commissioner, Alex Ukam Hails Governor Bassey Otu as ‘Godsent Leader’

As the Governor Bassey Otu administration clocks two impactful years in office, the Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Cross River State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Rt. Hon. Barr. Alex Ukam, has extolled the governor as “a great performer and a Godsend to Cross River State.” In a statement commemorating the Governor’s second anniversary in office, Rt. Hon. Ukam lauded Senator Otu’s leadership as visionary, transformative, and deeply people-oriented. According to him, the last two years have redefined governance in the state, delivering tangible progress in infrastructure, education, agriculture, security, and beyond. “Governor Bassey Otu has successfully rewritten the negative narrative of leadership in our state. His administration is driven by foresight and anchored in service. Cross River is on the path of meaningful transformation, and our people are beginning to feel the positive impact in their daily lives,” the statement read. Barr. Ukam particularly highlighted Governor Otu’s infrastructural revolution, pointing to the construction and rehabilitation of critical roads linking rural communities to urban centers—thereby stimulating local economies, improving mobility, and facilitating trade. He also acknowledged the administration’s efforts in rural electrification and the sustained functionality of solar-powered streetlights across urban centers.

On security, the NPC Commissioner commended the administration for strengthening the state’s safety framework through increased support for security agencies, provision of patrol vehicles, and closer collaboration with local communities to keep neighborhoods safe. In the education sector, Ukam praised the governor’s decisive intervention in resolving lingering industrial actions that had crippled tertiary institutions. He cited the upgrade of the College of Education to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa as a strategic step toward expanding access to higher learning and equipping the youth for future challenges. The Commissioner further applauded Governor Otu’s prioritization of agriculture, particularly in the provision of inputs, training, and access to markets for smallholder farmers. According to him, these interventions are gradually moving the state from subsistence farming to agribusiness, with direct implications for food security and economic growth. Rt. Hon. Ukam also noted the rising political momentum around the governor’s leadership, revealing that even members of the opposition are beginning to cross over to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in endorsement of Governor Otu’s performance and people-first philosophy. “Governor Otu has become a unifying force in Cross River politics. His leadership style has attracted wide admiration, and many well-meaning Cross Riverians, including opposition figures, are already expressing their support for his re-election in 2027,” Ukam noted.

The statement concluded with heartfelt prayers for continued wisdom, protection, and divine guidance upon Governor Otu, his wife, Bishop (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, and their entire family. “May God bless the governor’s good heart and lofty vision for our state. May we continue to enjoy the sweetness and peace that his administration has brought to Cross River.”
