The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Rashid B. Afegbua, has charged members of the 2025/2026 Police Constable Recruitment Screening Team to uphold accountability, professionalism and transparency as the screening exercise gets underway in the state.
Afegbua gave the charge on Monday while receiving members of the screening team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Victor Bekep, at the Officers’ Mess, Moore Road, Calabar, marking the official commencement of the screening exercise.
The Police Commissioner, who was present to observe the exercise, stressed that the integrity of the recruitment process must be protected at all times, urging the team to carry out their assignment with diligence and fairness.
He assured the team that the Command, working in collaboration with the Cross River State Government, would provide the necessary support to ensure the screening exercise is conducted smoothly and without hitches.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Eitokpah Sunday.
Addressing the candidates, the screening team leader, Bekep, urged applicants to remain orderly and disciplined throughout the exercise, noting that the recruitment process is strictly merit-based.
He emphasized that only candidates who meet the stipulated requirements would proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process and warned applicants against paying money to anyone who claims to influence the outcome.
Bekep maintained that the exercise is free, transparent and based solely on merit, advising candidates to report any individual or group demanding money or making fraudulent promises in connection with the recruitment exercise.
According to the Command, the screening exercise will run from March 9 to April 18, 2026, with applicants also encouraged to report complaints through the Police Complaint Response Unit in the state.
