In a renewed drive to safeguard the health and well-being of residents, the Obudu Local Government Anti-Quackery Committee and the Consumer Protection Committee have stepped up their operations to rid the markets of expired drugs and consumables.
The Anti-Quackery Committee, chaired by Dr. Godwin Agbor, embarked on a routine inspection last week across various drug outlets within the LGA area. During the exercise, the team discovered and confiscated large quantities of expired drugs that were still being sold to unsuspecting members of the public. Dr. Agbor emphasized that the committee will not relent until quack practices and the circulation of fake or harmful drugs are completely eradicated in Obudu.
Similarly, the Consumer Protection Committee (CPC), led by Mr. Precious Akawu, carried out an inspection of several provision shops in the urban area during the week. The team uncovered expired CWAY Nutri Milk drinks on sale, which were immediately removed from circulation to prevent health hazards. Mr. Akawu warned that any trader found selling expired or unwholesome products will face strict sanctions, as the committee remains committed to protecting consumers.
Both committees have assured the people of Obudu that their operations will continue in the coming weeks, with expanded coverage to ensure that only safe and quality products remain in the markets. They called on residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious drugs or consumables being sold within the community.
This joint effort by the Anti-Quackery Committee and the Consumer Protection Committee reflects Hon. Peter Undiandeye led administration’s determination to promote public safety, uphold consumer rights, and guarantee a healthier Obudu for all.
