The Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments, Cross River State, on Tuesday, celebrated Mr. Muze Ubi Okon as he bowed out of service after 35 years of meritorious service to the State.
The send-off ceremony, held at the New Secretariat Complex, Calabar, attracted dignitaries from all walks of life and staff from neighbouring ministries.
Speaking at the event, the Auditor-General for Local Governments, Mr. Bassey Abam Eko, applauded Mr. Muze for his commitment and dedication to duty within the short time they worked together, noting that he was losing one of his best hands.
"Audit is Mr. Muze’s constituency. If I had my way, I would not allow him to go," the Auditor-General said. He assured the celebrant that he would continue to carry him along and recommend him for positions whenever the occasion demands, while urging him not to forget the Ministry.
In his valedictory speech, Mr. Muze Ubi Okon, who was employed in 1991, said he had served the state diligently in the discharge of his duties. He charged workers to remain professional, maintain integrity, and be committed to continuous learning on the job.
"Integrity is what has sustained me over the years. You cannot give what you do not have," he said.
It was a moment of mixed feelings joy and nostalgia as colleagues celebrated the exit of a dedicated and principled civil servant after three and a half decades of meritorious service.
