The Chairman of the Cross River Internal Revenue Service, Prince Edwin Okon, has stated that the State's Internally Generated Revenue has hit 90 billion naira within the last two years.

The IRS Chairman disclosed this in his office while presenting a mid-term review of the Senator Bassey Otu's administration in the revenue sector.

According to him: "If you compare June 2021 to June 2023 which is two years the revenue was about 43 billion naira added together that is 21 billion naira for 2021 and 22 billion naira for 2022. Looking at the period the governor came on board, and gave us the opportunity to serve between June 2023 to May 2025 we have already done about 90 billion naira.” He rendered.

He further said that: "In our MDA's for instance, we used to have about 4 billion annually but as at December last year, we made about 17 billion naira.” He said.

He attributed the revenue surge to the support from the governor and thanked him for not interfering with the revenue process saying "the governor has never called me to reduce the tax of anyone", he added.

The IRS boss said that the State has a tax gap of about 6 billion naira and with the various reforms being put in place as well as the tax bills recently passed by the national assembly, the State hopes to generate 10 billion monthly within the next two years.
