CR’ Climate Action: Sen. Prince Bassey Otu To Distribute Smokeless Cook Stoves And Wonder Cooking Pots To Hundreds Of Households

Cross River State’s commitment to Climate Action was further demonstrated when the state government took delivery of hundreds of smokeless cook stoves and wonder cooking pots yesterday Friday 21st February, 2025.

The Clean Cook Stoves which the State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu will be distributing to hundreds of households was received by the Director General, Cross River State Council on Climate Change, Dr. Edu Effiom on behalf of the Cross River State Council on Climate Change and Green Economy Consortium.

Speaking when she received the consignment, Dr. Effiom said the Smokeless cook stoves, manufactured and donated by National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is designed to not only reduce the production of dangerous Green House Gases (GHG) during cooking process but to also reduce drastically the cutting of trees for firewood in our rural communities.

She added that the design and manufacturing of the smokeless cook stoves which is a collaboration of NASENI with the German Organization, the ATMOSFAIR is intended to help facilitate the realisation of the United Nations’ sustainable development goal No. 7, on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and clean energy for all.

Dr. Effiom thanked the Governor of the state Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for always putting the people of the state first. She said the Governor showed great commitment in ensuring the state took delivery of the smokeless cook stoves and wonder cooking pots adding that this is just a first of several other consignments that will come.

Also speaking, a Member of the Cross River State Green Economy Commission, Dr. Peter Ohiero said it is indeed a wonderful development to take delivery of the smokeless cook stoves and wonder cooking pots as these when distributed by the visionary Governor of the state, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu will impact positively on several households in the state.

Dr. Ohiero also used the opportunity to thank the Chairman/CEO of the Cross River State Green Economy Commission Hon. Oden Ewa for his tireless efforts at ensuring that the Council on Climate Change and Green Economy Consortium succeeds and makes difference in the state in the shortest possible time.

The Director General Cross River State Emergency Management Agency SEMA Pastor Antigha Gill who was on ground to receive the products into the SEMA warehouse thanked Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his commitment to reduction of the state’s carbon footprint and touching the lives of touching the lives of the people of the state.

A member of the Council on Climate Change Mr. Emmanuel Etim while speaking said the use of the smokeless cook stoves and wonder cooking pots with briskets as fuel will go a long way in facilitating the state’s just equitable transition away from fuel to clean energy.
