The people of Ekong Eta Community in Cross River State have commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for swiftly responding to their appeal for a brand-new 500kVA transformer after about 10 months without electricity.
The community, in a message of appreciation dated October 27, 2026 and signed by Engr. Johnsmith Okpo on behalf of the residents, described the governor’s intervention as a demonstration of care and commitment to public welfare, noting that the provision of the transformer had brought renewed hope and relief to households and businesses affected by the prolonged blackout.
The intervention followed an urgent appeal made by the Ekong Eta Community Transformer Committee in a letter dated October 7, 2026, requesting the governor’s assistance after efforts to resolve the electricity problem through the relevant authorities failed to yield the desired results.
The Governor’s swift response to the appeal culminated in the provision of a brand-new 500kVA transformer, prompting appreciation from residents who described the intervention as timely relief from their electricity challenges.

In their appreciation message, the residents said the Governor’s action went beyond providing electrical infrastructure, describing it as evidence of his concern for the welfare and needs of the people.
“Your Excellency, this gesture is more than the provision of an electrical facility; it is a demonstration of care, compassion, and a commitment to the welfare of the people,” the community stated.
They added: “Your intervention has brought renewed hope, joy, and relief to our community after a prolonged period of darkness and uncertainty. Today, our people have a strong reason to smile, and we do not take this act of kindness for granted.”
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community’s elders, women, youths, children and households, the residents thanked the governor for listening to their appeal and responding to their electricity needs.

“On behalf of our elders, women, youths, children, and every household in Ekong Eta, we say thank you, Your Excellency! May God Almighty richly reward you for remembering our people and responding to our needs,” the message read.
The community expressed hope that the new transformer would help revive economic activities, support small businesses and artisans, and improve residents’ living conditions following months of electricity disruption.
Residents also prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, good health and strength for the governor as he leads Cross River State, while wishing him success in his future political engagements.
