C'River Gov't Commences Comprehensive Verification Of 2024 Cocoa Allocation Exercise

Cross River state government through the office Special Adviser Asset Management  and Recovery and Secretary to the the Secretary to the State Government, on 25th June, 2024, commenced comprehensive verification of the 2024 Cocoa Allocation Exercise carried out by the Cocoa Allocation, Rehabilitation and Development Committee.

The 2024 allocation process has faced with scathing  criticisms from communities and stakeholders alike accusing the Cocoa allocation committee  of corruption and favouritism.

The Cocoa sector is contributing significantly to the livelihood of numerous farmers and local's economy.

The exercise, held at Ikom local government council secretariat, is to ensure integrity and bolster transparency of the 2024 cocoa allocation exercise in the state.

This initiative follows a direct mandate from Governor Bassey Edet Otu, who has prioritised the scrutiny and sanitation of the government owned cocoa estates in the state.

in conjunction with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, on 25th June, 2024, launched a comprehensive verification of the 2024 Cocoa Allocation Exercise by the Cocoa Allocation, Rehabilitation and Development Committee

Leading the process, Special Adviser Asset Management and Recovery, Barr Gilbert Agbor,  has commenced a detailed verification process towards reforming the entire sector.

The verification includes detailed examination of existing allocation records to identify discrepancies and irregularities, conducting physical inspections of allocated cocoa farms to verify the authenticity and engaging stakeholders to gather firsthand accounts and insights into the allocation process.

At the end of the exercise, Agbor is expected to come up with a comprehensive report outlining findings and recommendations aimed at reforming the cocoa industry.
