The Director General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency (CRSHIA), Chief Godwin Iyala, has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to healthcare financing and policy development in the state.
Chief Iyala received an Award of Excellence from the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives (NANSNM), South-South Zone, during the association’s Quiz and Awards Ceremony held in Calabar.
Presenting the award, the Zonal President of NANSNM, Comrade Treasure Adaobi Anene, described Chief Iyala as “a trailblazer in expanding access to affordable healthcare” and commended him for “his commitment to health financing reforms and tireless advocacy for universal health coverage across Cross River State.”
“We are honouring Chief Iyala for his visionary leadership and consistent support for nursing education and healthcare delivery. His efforts have given student nurses and midwives hope for a stronger, more inclusive health system,” she stated.
In his remarks, Chief Iyala expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and emphasized the vital role of nurses and midwives in the nation’s health ecosystem.
“The health financing landscape is one ecosystem that is about to deepen. And to see that one’s little contribution is being noted means a lot,” he said.
Encouraging the students, he added: “You are in the right profession. You are in the right position. The responsibility to deepen universal health coverage now rests in your hands.”
He also acknowledged the dedication of his team at the agency, saying: “I walk into the office and see men and women working tirelessly to ensure this vision is achieved. I thank you all for your support and for loving me. Thank you very much.”
Chief Iyala’s leadership continues to play a pivotal role in repositioning health insurance in the state, particularly under the evolving direction of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration, with a focus on equity and sustainability in healthcare access.
