The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CR-SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has held a one-day career talk on agriculture for learners with the theme: _“Rooted in Passion: Finding Your Super Power in Agriculture.”
The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs. Fidelia Okpo Ene, who was represented by Board Member II, Mrs. Theresa Essien, said the programme was aimed at inspiring pupils to explore the numerous opportunities in agricultural skills and appreciate the importance of agriculture to economic growth and sustainable development.

Mrs. Essien noted that agriculture remains a vital sector with immense potential for economic growth, food security and job creation. She urged the pupils to develop a positive attitude towards agricultural education and see it as a viable career path rather than merely an academic subject.
She further encouraged the learners to embrace innovation, creativity and practical agricultural skills, stressing that the future of agriculture depends largely on the interest and commitment of the younger generation.
Mrs. Essien reaffirmed the Board's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote quality basic education and equip pupils with relevant knowledge and skills for self-reliance and sustainable development.

The UBEC State Coordinator, Dr. Omuta Obanovwe, emphasised the importance of agricultural education in equipping learners with practical skills, entrepreneurial knowledge and the right mindset to become self-reliant. He noted that the Agricultural Education Training Programme was designed to expose pupils to the vast opportunities in agriculture and encourage them to develop an interest in farming and other agricultural ventures from an early age.
Dr. Obanovwe stressed that agriculture goes beyond traditional farming, encompassing several areas that can provide employment and contribute to economic growth. He urged teachers and administrators to sustain pupils' interest in agricultural education by encouraging hands-on learning and practical engagement.
The State Coordinator further noted that exposing learners to agricultural opportunities would help nurture a generation of innovative young people capable of contributing to food security, wealth creation and sustainable development in Cross River State and Nigeria at large.
The Director of Academic Services, Mrs. Caroline Ana, emphasised that agriculture remains essential to human survival because everybody needs food. She noted that the sector provides numerous job opportunities for young people and serves as a vital means of livelihood for individuals and families.
She underscored the importance of encouraging learners to embrace agriculture, stressing that “No farmer, no food; no food, no life.” She urged the pupils to recognise the value of agriculture and explore its potential as a rewarding career capable of improving their lives and contributing to the development of society.
The event featured presentations by facilitators and goodwill messages from the Secretary, State Committee, Young Farmer Club, Mr. Theophilus Lebo, and a host of others.
