The Cross River State Executive Council has approved the release of ₦339,903,000 for the registration of 12,589 indigenous students for the 2026 West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The approval was part of resolutions reached at the first Executive Council (EXCO) meeting of 2026, held at the State Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Calabar.
The intervention is aimed at easing the financial burden on families while expanding access to education for eligible students across the state.
Government said the move underscores its continued commitment to human capital development and the “People First” agenda of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration.
The gesture is also expected to improve examination participation rates and enhance academic opportunities for students, particularly those from underserved communities.
Education stakeholders have consistently emphasized the importance of such interventions in boosting school enrolment, retention and performance in external examinations.
