Cross River Assembly Speaker Swears-In New Ogoja Lawmaker

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has sworn in Aruku Thomas Uko as a member representing Ogoja State Constituency in the 10th Assembly.

The Speaker administered the oath of allegiance and oath of membership on Aruku after the Clerk of the Assembly Mr. Dominic Akiba read a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which disclosed that after the March 18th, 2023 elections, the Commission had issued a certificate of return in favor of Ayim Rita Agbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But the Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered on 23rd November 2023, had nullified Ayim’s election and ordered the issuance of a new Certificate of Return in favor of Aruku Thomas Uko of the APC.

After the swearing-in, Ayambem congratulated Aruku and welcomed him to the House while urging him to work hard to justify the confidence of his constituents who voted for him during the elections.

In an interview with journalists, after the swearing-in, Hon. Aruku expressed gratitude to God for granting him victory at the Court of Appeal. He promised to work hard to positively impact his constituency.
