The Cross River State Ministry of Transportation has commenced a comprehensive verification and authentication exercise for all transport associations and trade unions operating within the state, as part of efforts to streamline operations and ensure regulatory compliance.
The directive was contained in a press release issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Gabriel Ukwada, calling on all stakeholders in the transport sub-sector to participate in the exercise.
According to the Ministry, the verification process is aimed at confirming the legal status of all transport unions and associations, while strengthening transparency and accountability within the sector.
As part of the requirements, the leadership of all affected organizations has been directed to submit key documents, including their association’s constitution, proof of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), due process registration certificates, and authorization documents permitting the sale of tickets or collection of check-off dues.
The Ministry also requested submission of any government-issued documents conferring operational rights, supremacy, or jurisdiction, as well as other relevant materials that may support the verification process.
“All requested documents must be submitted on or before Tuesday, April 7, 2026, to the Office of the Director of Administration, Ministry of Transportation, Calabar,” the statement read.
The Ministry urged all union leaders to comply promptly with the directive to avoid disruptions to their operations, warning that failure to participate in the exercise may affect their continued legal status in the state.
Stakeholders seeking further clarification have been advised to visit the Ministry of Transportation located at the Water Board Premises, 147 Ndidem Usang Iso Road, Calabar.
