The Cross River State Government has intensified efforts to improve road infrastructure and ease movement in Calabar South, with the Cross River State Road Maintenance Agency (CR-ROMA) deploying engineers, field workers and modern equipment to rehabilitate critical failed sections along major road corridors.
The intervention, being undertaken with funding from the state government, is focused on restoring damaged portions, eliminating potholes and improving traffic flow on some of the busiest routes in the Local Government Area.
The Director-General of CR-ROMA, Hon. Christopher Ntui, who is leading the intervention, said the agency was responding to identified road maintenance needs to make the affected corridors safer and more motorable for residents, businesses and commuters.
The ongoing work covers strategic locations including Mayne Avenue by Atamunu, Mayne Avenue by Ekpo Abasi, Ekpo Abasi Roundabout and the Ekpo Abasi axis by New Airport Road.
Ntui clarified that the intervention was targeted at specific failed sections rather than a reconstruction of the entire road stretches, noting that the approach was designed to address the immediate defects affecting movement.
“This work does not cover the entire stretch of the road but rather surface patching, asphalt overlay, and the remediation of failed road sections to eliminate potholes and ease traffic flow on that axis,” he said.
According to him, concentrating resources on the failed sections would help restore the integrity of the affected portions while providing immediate relief to motorists and other road users who depend on the corridors daily.
The Director-General explained that the rehabilitation of the high-traffic sections would also help reduce vehicular wear and tear and minimise traffic bottlenecks, thereby facilitating smoother movement within the Calabar South axis.
He said the deployment of technical personnel and maintenance equipment underscored the agency’s readiness to respond to road defects promptly and sustain the functionality of the state’s road network.
Ntui assured residents that CR-ROMA would continue to monitor road conditions and intervene in areas requiring maintenance, in line with the state government’s commitment to maintaining a safe, seamless and motorable road network.
He urged road users to cooperate with the field teams as work progresses, stressing that timely maintenance of critical road sections was essential to preserving infrastructure and ensuring efficient transportation.
The intervention further demonstrates the Cross River State Government’s focus on sustaining existing road infrastructure while addressing emerging maintenance challenges that directly affect the daily movement and economic activities of residents.
