The Cross River Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS) has commenced its 2026 Customer Service Week, scheduled for Monday, October 5, to Friday, October 9, under the globally recognised theme, “The Extra Mile.”
The week-long celebration highlights the Service’s commitment to going beyond its routine tax administration responsibilities by strengthening taxpayer relations, giving back to society and contributing to inclusive development across Cross River State.
As part of the activities, CRIRS is offering 100 per cent waivers on penalties and interest during the Customer Service Week, with a 50 per cent waiver thereafter until October 31, 2026, for eligible taxpayers.
The Service has also earmarked ₦2.5 million to support 50 children in public schools for the 2026/2027 academic session, while another ₦2 million has been set aside to support agro and livestock farming initiatives.
Officials of the Service will also visit selected taxpayers during the week to engage directly with them, address concerns and strengthen the relationship between the tax authority and the business community.
Other activities lined up for the celebration include a football match and a tax roadshow. The programme was preceded by a guest appearance by the Service on Cross River Broadcasting Corporation’s Weekend Politics on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Speaking on the initiatives, the Executive Chairman of CRIRS, Prince Edwin Okon, said the Service’s understanding of customer service goes beyond tax collection to creating meaningful value for the people of Cross River State.
He said, “The Extra Mile is about doing more than is expected. For us at CRIRS, it challenges us not only to provide efficient and taxpayer-friendly services, but also to appreciate our taxpayers, support vulnerable members of society and contribute to initiatives that can improve lives.”
Okon added that the Service wanted taxpayers and other stakeholders to see CRIRS not only as a revenue-generating agency but also as a responsible partner in the development of the state.
Beyond the immediate interventions, the Service plans to roll out a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme across the three Senatorial Districts of Cross River State, designed to deliver lasting impact in community welfare and sanitation.
CRIRS said the Customer Service Week represents a practical demonstration of its resolve to place taxpayers at the centre of its operations while contributing meaningfully to the state’s social and economic development.
The “The Extra Mile” celebrations are also taking place across CRIRS outstations in the three Senatorial Districts, with activities aimed at deepening engagement between the Service and taxpayers.
