Cross River Police Unveil Activities for 2026 National Police Day

The Cross River State Police Command has unveiled a lineup of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day celebration, with a renewed focus on strengthening community relations and public trust.

The announcement was made during a press briefing at the State Police Headquarters in Calabar by the Commissioner of Police, Rashid B. Afegbua, who highlighted the significance of the annual event in promoting citizen engagement and effective policing.

According to the Command, the National Police Day initiative, which began in 2025, is being sustained under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

This year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to fostering closer collaboration with the public, emphasizing that effective policing thrives on mutual trust and cooperation.

As part of the celebration, the Command has scheduled a series of activities beginning on Monday, March 30, with environmental sanitation exercises across selected locations, alongside a free medical outreach for residents at Millennium Park, Eleven-Eleven Roundabout in Calabar.

On Tuesday, March 31, a walkathon will be held to promote fitness and enhance police-community engagement, while Wednesday, April 1, will feature public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence prevention and road safety at Etim Edem Park.

The activities will continue on Thursday, April 2, with the presentation of welfare cheques to families of fallen police officers in recognition of their sacrifice and service to the nation.

The celebration will culminate in a grand ceremonial parade on April 7 at Eagle Square in Abuja, bringing together senior police officers and dignitaries from across the country.

The Command, through its spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah, called on residents of the state to actively participate in the activities, noting that community partnership remains critical to building a safer and more secure society.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across Cross River State.
