The Government of Cross River State, in line with its People's First Mandate, has expressed interest to partner with the Russian Government in order to develop its solid mineral sector and to train scientific professionals in the areas of solid mineral exploration and healthcare.
This was disclosed by His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, during a diplomatic cum business meeting held today, Tuesday, 11th January 2025, with Mr. Maxim Petrov, the Trade Commissioner of the Russian Federation, Nigeria, Senior Counselor Mr. Sergei Pliushchov was at the Russian Embassy, Nigeria, while in the company of Dr. Prince Michael Nku Abuo, his Special Adviser on Intervention and Grant/State Coordinator AUDA/NEPAD.
In the Governor’s words: “Cross River State has numerous and enormous mineral deposits, human resources, and the best environment for business or leisure; this visit is a commitment and an invitation to invite the Russian Government to partner with the state to develop these potentials”.
Mr. Maxim Petrov, the Russian Trade Commissioner speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Russia, assured His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, of the Russian Government's willingness to partner with the state in the area of solid mineral survey, mapping, analysis, categorization, and exploration. In addition, free scholarship opportunities and accommodation in Russia were provided for the state to send students for training in scientific fields. Offers for training our health workers were also extended, as well as for investors to build processing and refining plants in the state.
Dr. Prince Michael Nku Abuo concluded the engagement by appreciating the Russian government for the said opportunities and assured them of adequate support from His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the executive governor, and the good people of Cross River State for the fruition of the partnership opportunities, which will be mutually beneficial.
