The Cross River State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer (TBLS) has began activities to mark the 2025 world TB day in the state.
World TB day, marked on March 24 yearly is a day set aside to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis with efforts to stop the spread of the disease.
In Cross River State, the 2025 TB day celebration with the theme We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver, began with a sensitization exercise at Duke Town secondary school Calabar on Wednesday and continued on Thursday with an outreach and screening of people at the Volvo Market, Esuk Nsirung in Calabar South.

Outreach To Duke Town Secondary School
The TBLS focal person for Calabar South Arit Archibong who spoke during the advocacy at Volvo market said the outreach is part of activities to mark world tuberculosis day in the state.
She explained that Esuk Nsirung which is a riverine settlement has been identified earlier on as a tuberculosis hotspot hence the reason the state TB office decided to bring the outreach and screening to the area.
She hinted that tuberculosis is preventable and curable while urging people who have experienced severe cough for more than 2 weeks to go for TB test and screening to ascertain their TB status and begin possible treatment.

Other activities billed to mark the day include a visit to the Nigerian Correctional Center as well as a sensitization walk on some major streets in Calabar.
