The Defendable Force, a socio-political advocacy group, has honoured businessman and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Chris Ekong Ventures, Mr. Christopher Ekong, with an Award of Excellence for his contributions to the development of Bendeghe-Ekiem, youth empowerment and community service.
The award recognises Ekong’s commitment to the development of his community, particularly his ongoing renovation of a block of classrooms at Presbyterian Primary School, Bendeghe-Ekiem, where he received his early education.
Presenting the award at Ekong’s office in Grassfield, Ikom, recently, Chairman of the Defendable Force, Mr. John Tangbe, commended him for his magnanimity and his decision to renovate the school that played a significant role in his formative years.
Tangbe also praised Ekong for empowering young people from Bendeghe-Ekiem through business development support, particularly in cocoa trading and farming. He described the interventions as practical contributions to improving livelihoods and strengthening the economic prospects of young people in the community.
He said Ekong was deserving of the honour and urged him to sustain his commitment to community development. Tangbe also called on other business owners and successful individuals from Bendeghe-Ekiem to emulate his example by investing in initiatives that directly improve the lives of the people.
Accepting the award, Ekong thanked the Defendable Force for finding his modest contribution to society worthy of recognition, saying his connection to Bendeghe-Ekiem was deeply rooted in his family history.
He explained that members of his extended family had lived in Bendeghe-Ekiem for several decades, with the family expanding significantly over the years. He said the community therefore remained central to his family’s identity and life story, making his commitment to its development a responsibility he embraces with pride and gratitude.
Ekong said his decision to renovate the Presbyterian Primary School was particularly significant because he is an alumnus of the institution. He described the intervention as part of the social responsibility of Chris Ekong Ventures and an opportunity to give back to a community that contributed to shaping his early life.
He pledged to remain committed to supporting causes that promote the welfare and development of society, particularly initiatives that create opportunities for young people and contribute to the sustainable development of Bendeghe-Ekiem.
