Deputy Governor Peter Odey Receives Senator Jarigbe Agom on Consultative Visit

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, on Wednesday has received Senator Jarigbe Agom at his residence in Calabar as the Senator continues his engagement with critical stakeholders and leaders across the Northern Senatorial District and the state following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the visit, the Senator stated that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by his desire to support the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the People First's mantra of Governor Bassey Otu, whom he described as a people-centric and compassionate leader who prioritizes the welfare of Cross Riverians.

"I am here to let you know that, as the No. 2 man in the state, I have moved to join the APC, and there is no going back on this decision. All I need is your guidance and tolerance of our human excesses. No one is infallible because nobody can pass the test of infallibility; we are all mortal,” he said.

He further appealed, “Trash all the negative stories you have heard from both conventional and unconventional sources. I am here to support you. It is only God that holds our future.”

Welcoming the Senator to his residence and to the APC, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey commended him for the bold step to defect to the party and for his consultative approach following his visit to the President.

“So, your coming to the APC is nothing strange; it is more like a return to the status quo because we were once all together in one party, and today we are again. I welcome you wholeheartedly,” the Deputy Governor said.

He emphasized that, aside from the God factor that determines the fate of men, looking ahead to 2027, his principal and Governor of the state remains the leader of the party, and whatever direction the Governor gives, he would follow to the letter.

Odey also called on Cross Riverians, especially party members, to remain united, supportive, and to continue to pray for Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Tinubu.

Odey’s warm reception, alongside that of the President and other stakeholders in the state, further underscores the party’s commitment to inclusiveness. With Senator Agom’s defection to the APC, the party’s remaining opposition has dwindled further, positioning the APC in firm control of the state as it looks ahead to 2027.
