Diaspora Network Endorses Otu for Second Term, Cites Development Strides

The Nigeria Diaspora Business Network, in partnership with Pillars of Equity, has thrown its weight behind Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s second-term bid, applauding his administration’s strides in key sectors of the state’s development.

The endorsement was announced on Monday at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar by the group’s Director of Finance and Acting Chairman, Kenneth Etim.

Addressing journalists, Etim dismissed claims that the group is politically motivated or sponsored by the government, stressing its independence and commitment to good governance.

“Let me be clear: we are not a political group, and we are certainly not sponsored by the government. Our mandate is to support good governance, not to chase political office,” he said.

He explained that while the network collaborates with government institutions, it remains objective and will not hesitate to hold leaders accountable where necessary.

“We work in synergy with the government, and we commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his initiatives. However, if the government fails the people, we will speak up. Our support is sincere, but it is based on performance,” Etim added.

Highlighting Governor Otu’s performance, Etim pointed to significant improvements in education, infrastructure, tourism, security, and employment generation.

“Leadership is not easy, but Governor Otu has delivered. Schools have been renovated, roads improved, tourism sites revived, and security strengthened. One good turn deserves another, and that is why we are supporting him for 2027,” he stated.

Etim also commended the performance of the state’s senator, noting that his legislative contributions and constituency projects have had visible impacts across the state.

“In just two and a half years, our senator has sponsored 22 bills and moved eight motions. He has also facilitated scholarships, road projects, and empowerment programmes. This is the kind of representation our people deserve,” he said.

The network called on residents of the state to turn out en masse for a mega rally scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Main Avenue Primary School, aimed at celebrating the administration’s achievements and mobilising support for sustained development.

“The progress recorded under Governor Otu deserves continuity. Let us come together to take Cross River State to greater heights,” Etim concluded.
