The Cross River State Commissioner for Lands, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, has expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Hope Waddell Old Students Association on initiatives capable of promoting institutional development and contributing to the growth of Cross River State.
Ekpang stated this when the newly inaugurated executive members of the Hope Waddell Old Students Association paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Lands to congratulate him on his reassignment and explore areas of possible partnership.
The Commissioner said the Ministry remained open to constructive engagement with organisations and stakeholders with viable ideas capable of attracting opportunities, strengthening institutions and advancing sustainable development.
He encouraged the association to present practical proposals that could promote the development of Hope Waddell and strengthen the relationship between the institution, its alumni and relevant government agencies.
Ekpang said although government might not always have the financial resources to support every proposal, meaningful ideas, expertise and strategic partnerships could provide alternative pathways for achieving sustainable development.
He also charged the newly inaugurated executive members to justify the confidence reposed in them by working diligently, maintaining discipline and ensuring that their responsibilities were effectively discharged. He directed that relevant follow-up concerning the institution should be undertaken promptly, with a report on progress submitted within one month.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to the association for the visit, describing the gesture as one that made him feel highly respected and elated. He acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Hope Waddell and its old students, noting that the institution had produced individuals who had distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour.
Speaking from his personal experience, Ekpang said the discipline, values and exposure he received from Hope Waddell had contributed significantly to his development and the responsibilities he occupies today. He described the institution as one with a rich legacy whose name commands recognition beyond Cross River State.
Ekpang reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote institutional and community development, while urging the association to sustain its values and remain focused on practical interventions that would advance the interests of Hope Waddell and Cross River State.
Earlier, President of the Hope Waddell Old Students Association, Barr. David Edem, congratulated Ekpang on his reassignment to the Ministry and commended his leadership, assuring him of the association’s support whenever such partnership would contribute to the progress of the Ministry and the state.
Edem said the visit was also aimed at formally introducing the newly installed executive committee and fostering stronger synergy between the association and the Ministry.
He said the association was prepared to contribute ideas, expertise and other forms of support towards initiatives capable of creating positive impact, adding that its members remained committed to using their networks and experience to support the development of Hope Waddell and the wider society.
The President said the association would continue to build on the institution’s legacy of discipline, service and excellence, while seeking opportunities to deepen its engagement with government and other stakeholders.
