The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has stated that the achievements of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration are visible and evident across the state, stressing that the government remains committed to delivering purposeful leadership and sustainable development.
Odey made the remarks on Thursday while receiving in audience a sociopolitical group under the banner of “Cross River Rediscovered - Otu/Odey 2027” at Government House, Calabar on Thursday.
Reacting to comments made by a PDP governorship aspirant while addressing what he described as a handful of supporters at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, the Deputy Governor said Cross Riverians can clearly see and feel the impact of Governor Otu’s “People First” administration across the state.
According to Odey, no amount of political propaganda can erase the achievements recorded by the administration in less than three years.
“Cross River has moved forward, not backward. The achievements of Governor Bassey Otu are visible and evident for everyone to see, except those blinded by politics,” he said.
The Deputy Governor accused opposition politicians of attempting to downplay the administration’s progress because they lack a credible alternative agenda.
He cited the improved security situation in Akpabuyo Local Government Area as a major achievement, noting that the area, once notorious for kidnapping and violent crimes, is now peaceful and witnessing increased student enrollment at Arthur Jarvis University.
Odey maintained that Governor Otu’s “People First” agenda continues to produce tangible results across the state, adding that the administration is more focused on governance and development than political distractions.
The Deputy Governor called on Cross Riverians to continue supporting the present administration, assuring that more developmental projects and people-oriented policies would be delivered in line with the governor’s vision for the state.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the group, Barr. Paul Ishabor, commended the administration of Governor Bassey Otu and Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey for what he described as visible achievements recorded across the state within three years, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, tourism, security, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
Ishabor stated that the Otu/Odey administration has restored hope, revived tourism, improved infrastructure, boosted internally generated revenue, and repositioned Cross River State for economic growth.
He praised the revival of Carnival Calabar, ongoing road construction projects, rural electrification initiatives, agricultural reforms, free healthcare programmes, and the payment of WAEC fees for thousands of students across the state.
