Governor Bassey Edet Otu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring the pride, security and economic fortunes of Cross River State, attributing the progress recorded so far to the faithfulness of God.
The governor spoke on Saturday during the 7th State Solemn Assembly held at the Calabar International Convention Centre, where political leaders, clergy and citizens gathered in thanksgiving under the theme “Great is His Faithfulness.”
Quoting the Book of Psalms 34 at the start of his address, Otu described the gathering as a moment to thank God for the journey so far, noting that Cross Riverians are widely known for their strong faith in God.
He recalled declaring during the first Solemn Assembly after assuming office that Jesus Christ is the true governor of the state, while he serves only as a messenger carrying out divine direction.
Reflecting on nearly three years in office, the governor said his administration had focused on restoring the dignity of Cross Riverians, improving security, rebuilding infrastructure and reviving abandoned state assets.
He noted that the government has also taken steps to recover strategic assets, including the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort, while pursuing the recognition of oil wells belonging to the state.
Despite limited revenue allocations, Otu said the state had continued to make steady progress and urged citizens to remain united and prayerful.
“A state that was once number one can never remain the last. We have passed that stage and we are heading for greatness,” he said.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Governor, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, said the Solemn Assembly was an opportunity to reflect on God’s mercy and compassion toward the state.
“God has been faithful to us even when we are unfaithful. When we reflect on yesterday and see where we are today, it gives us hope for tomorrow,” she stated.
Delivering the sermon, Apostle Trinity Ogar, drawing from scriptural references including the Book of Deuteronomy 7:9, Book of Hosea 4:6, Book of Psalms 126:3 and the First Epistle to the Thessalonians 5:1, emphasized that God’s faithfulness guarantees protection, restoration and the manifestation of great things.
According to him, the ongoing recovery of state assets and renewed development efforts in Cross River are signs of God’s faithfulness at work.
“Nothing is too lost to recover with God,” the cleric declared, expressing confidence that greater testimonies and breakthroughs lie ahead for the state.
The religious gathering was attended by political leaders, monarchs, the clergy, and a multitude of Cross Riverians.
