Gov Otu Hails Imoke as ‘Statesman of Uncommon Grace’ on Birthday Milestone

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has paid glowing tribute to former Governor Liyel Imoke, describing him as “a statesman of uncommon grace” whose visionary leadership continues to shape the destiny of the state and inspire generations across Nigeria.

In a heartfelt birthday message released in Calabar by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, Governor Otu celebrated the former governor’s enduring legacy, describing him as “a gentleman of purpose” and a quiet achiever whose time in office left an indelible mark on the state’s development.

“Governor Liyel Imoke remains a gentleman of purpose, whose storied life reflects visionary leadership, noble pedigree, and quiet excellence,” Governor Otu stated. “He has worn the garland of public service with dignified humility and left indelible footprints on the sands of our development journey.”

Imoke, who governed Cross River State from 2007 to 2015, is widely credited for pioneering far-reaching reforms in rural development, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, initiatives Governor Otu described as foundational to the state’s current growth trajectory.

“Your legacy is etched in human capital development and rural transformation. You governed not with noise, but with noble impact,” Otu said. “We continue to draw strength from your bridge-building ethos and the quiet confidence with which you led.”

He further described Imoke as a “refined mind and custodian of the Cross River dream,” noting that his leadership has become a compass for young and rising leaders across the country.

“May your years ahead be crowned with joy, robust health, and divine wisdom. Happy birthday, Your Excellency, elder statesman, mentor, and beacon of quiet greatness,” he stated, concluding with an expression of gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Cross River State: “We salute your courage, your compassion, and your enduring contributions to our shared heritage.”
