Gov. Otu Reaffirms Cross River State’s Commitment To Tackling Climate Change

Says; “Our Mangroves Have Suffered, But We Are Committed to Restoration”

Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has reaffirmed Cross River State’s strong commitment to tackling climate change, emphasizing mangrove restoration as a top priority. Otu made the declaration during a visit by the National Council on Climate Change Secretariat. He highlighted the state’s leadership in climate action, being the first to sign the Climate Change Law.

“Our mangroves have suffered, but we are taking bold steps to restore them. This is a testament to our commitment to climate action and a greener economy,” he said.

Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe, DG of the National Council on Climate Change, praised Cross River as a model state

in driving climate governance, while Dr. Edu Effiom, DG of the Cross River State Climate Council, reiterated ongoing efforts in mangrove restoration and carbon investment.

With stakeholders now aligning on a concrete roadmap for conservation, Cross River State is set to lead Nigeria’s climate resilience efforts.
