The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State, Hon. (Dr.) Emmanuel Ironbar, has described his recent honorary doctorate as a call to greater service and a renewed challenge to deepen his commitment to humanity.
Dr. Ironbar made the remarks while addressing journalists at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar, on Monday, upon his return from Lagos, where he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Policy and Administrative Studies by Crown University, Delaware–USA, in partnership with the Centre for Public Service Productivity and Development.
Visibly elated, the Chief of Staff said he felt deeply encouraged by the recognition, which he believes reflects not just his personal efforts, but the collective spirit of public service championed by his boss, Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
“I feel encouraged by this recognition from Crown University and the Centre for Public Service Productivity and Development. It is a good one, and it comes with a sense of responsibility,” he said.
Responding to a question on how the award would inspire his work in government, Dr. Ironbar said the honour serves as a motivation to double his efforts in advancing the administration’s people-centered vision.
“I’m serving under a Governor who has made service to humanity his utmost priority. This award is a challenge for me to step up, build on what I have already done, and make it even better,” he stated.
Dr. Ironbar, known for his accessible leadership style and steady administrative hand, also used the moment to offer guidance to young Cross Riverians who aspire to distinguished service in public life. He urged them to remain committed to integrity, inclusiveness, and professionalism in all their dealings.
“Once you become a public servant, know that eyes are watching you. You must strive to do the right thing without fear or favor. Operate an open-door policy and ensure your conduct and attitude reflect strong public relations and empathy toward the people,” he advised.
Dr. Ironbar concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the vision of Governor Otu’s administration, promising to continue serving with humility, dedication, and excellence.
The honorary doctorate, conferred during a ceremony held at the University of Lagos on Saturday, has been widely celebrated by colleagues, political leaders, and citizens who see it as a well-deserved recognition of Dr. Ironbar’s competence, and impact in governance.
