How Gov Otu's Project Grow is Accelerating Land Allocation To Farmers in Cross River

Project Grow, the leading agricultural development initiative of the Cross River State Government, is currently undertaking a farm allocation exercise of cultivated farmlands to farmers across the State. Conceived by Governor Bassey Edet Otu and anchored on his “People First” mantra, Project Grow reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development, food security, and rural transformation.

The initiative which is focused on scaling commercial agriculture and improving livelihoods, places the people of Cross River State at the centre of sustainable investment in the agricultural sector.

With farming activities now actively underway, Project Grow team on ground across communities in Odukpani, Obubra, Ogoja, Yala, Ikom, Yakurr and Obanliku are actively engaging local stakeholders to fully harness the potentials in the sector .

Notably, traditional leaders, youth groups, and partner institutions continue to provide support to the project, reinforcing the importance of the project's community-driven approach.

In Woda and Mkpani communities, traditional authorities who warmly received the Project Grow team expressed optimism in the life changing initiative and pledged their commitment to support it at all courses.

Tractors, equipment and other farm inputs have been deployed, and planting has begun in earnest, paving the way for sustainable crop production and economic participation by the local farmers.

Most outstanding is the institutional partnership with UNICROSS, Agricultural Science Faculty, Okuku campus, where students on Industrial Training (IT) are actively involved in Project Grow’s farming operations. This engagement is providing them with invaluable hands-on experience in modern agriculture and agribusiness practices.

As land allocation continues across all locations in the State, Project Grow remains committed to inclusive growth, youth participation, and sustainable agricultural development in Cross River State. The initiative is positioning farming as a viable and rewarding enterprise for communities across the state.
