Councillors from Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung Local Government Areas have committed to supporting Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.
The councillors made the commitment on Wednesday during a meeting with the Secretary to the Cross River State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, at his residence in Calabar.
The meeting was held as part of efforts to strengthen the Ikom-Boki-Obubra-Etung (IBOE) Alliance and consolidate grassroots structures across the four local government areas.
The Coordinator of the Forum, Hon. Kasetima Ayiba Nentui, who represents Ikom Urban Ward II and is Deputy Leader of the Ikom Legislative Council, assured the SSG of the councillors’ readiness to mobilise grassroots support for Governor Otu, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Nentui said the councillors were prepared to work at the grassroots to support the administration of Governor Otu and the APC, while strengthening the party’s structures across the IBOE axis.
In separate remarks, the councillors reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and expressed their commitment to the re-election of President Tinubu, Governor Otu and other candidates of the party in the 2027 elections.
Responding, Prof. Enoh expressed confidence in the determination of the councillors to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures across Ikom, Boki, Obubra and Etung.
The SSG assured the councillors of his continued support and availability to provide leadership for the IBOE Alliance.
He urged them to remain united and committed to their responsibilities at the grassroots, stressing the importance of effective leadership in strengthening democratic participation.
Owan-Enoh also encouraged young people to take an active interest in leadership, describing them as important actors in Nigeria’s democratic process and urging them to make their mark in leadership and public service.
The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and grassroots mobilisation among the four local government areas under the IBOE Alliance.
