LG Elections: APC Sweeps Council, Councilorship Seats Across 18 Councils In C'River

THE ruling All Progressives' Congress (APC) has swept all the 18 chairmanship ans 196 councillorship seats in 2024 Cross River local government elections.

Out of  the 18, 3 Women emerged as chairpersons of Ikom, Boki and Bekwarra local government areas. 

Dr Ekong Boco, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) announced the results at the Commission’s office in Calabar on Sunday.

The women that  emerged are chairpersons of Boki, Bekwarra and Ikom local governments.

According to the results, APC has the PDP as it closest rival in 14 council areas of Biase, Boki, Calabar Municipality, Obubra, Yakurr, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Etung, Odukpani, Abi, Calabar Municipality and Calabar South.

On the other hand, the ruling party directly defeated the Labour Party in four local governments of Yala, Obudu, Ikom and Ogoja.

While urging them to prioritise the development of their council areas, he told them to be magnanimous in victory.

"Be magnanimous in victory carry your brothers and sisters along as we are all of the same state," he stated.

Certificates of return were immediately issued to the winners of the Saturday poll.

THE BEAGLE NEWS reports that there was outcry by voters over alleged  widespread electoral irregularities that greeted the conduct of the elections on Saturday.

It was observed there in some polling units there was no availability of results sheets and stamps,  alleged reports of massive thump printing as well as poor turnout of voters. 

There was also a report of violence in Obubra where one of the PDP councillorship candidates was stabbed by hoodlums.
