Mrs Otu Urges Muslim Women to Sustain Love, Pray for Leaders At Eid-el-Fitr

In the spirit of Ramadan, the Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has called on Muslim women in the State to embody love and selflessness while urging them to pray for leaders at all levels.

The Governor’s wife made the call during a fast-breaking get-together for the Muslim women community in Calabar.

Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the power of unity, stating, “Lifting one person means another person will be lifted, and together we will be one formidable force. We must consider the needs of one another and truly be there for each other.”

Bishop Otu extended the warm regards of the Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, noting that breaking fast together exemplifies the administration's commitment to their welfare. She expressed her gratitude for the high turnout and offered prayers for the protection and preservation of the women.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor’s wife on Programmes, Apostle Queen Eton, remarked that the gathering was a celebration of sisterhood. She reaffirmed Bishop Otu’s dedication to empowering women and fostering interfaith understanding.

“As we break fast together, we are reminded of the values of compassion, kindness, and generosity that Ramadan embodies. We are grateful for this opportunity to share experiences and build lasting bonds,” Eton stated.

In their separate goodwill messages, Member representing Yakurr II State Constituency, Dr. Mercy Akpama Charged the women to be pillars of their homes, nurturing their children and modeling exemplary behavior.

On her part, Commissioner for Social Welfare, Bishop Margaret Ene Ita noted that the Governor’s wife has ushered in a "season of sweetness" for women across the state, regardless of tribe or religion.

She encouraged the attendees to emulate the First Lady’s lifestyle of kindness and encouragement.

Also speaking, the All Progressive Congress(APC) Non-Indigenous Woman Leader Mrs. Maria Nnenna Ezeagu & Hausa/Fulani Women Leader, Alhaja Mariam Abache, both thanked the Governor’s Wife for her simplicity and for consistently including non-indigenous women in her outreach programs.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of relief materials to support the Ramadan celebration. The items distributed included, 400 Wrappers, 100 Bags of rice (50kg), 10 Bags of beans (100kg), Cash gifts for the attendees.

In a vote of thanks, the Coordinator of the Hausa/Fulani Muslim Community (Ward 10, Calabar South), Alhaji Uba Shuaibu, praised the First Lady’s generosity.
"This selfless act reflects your compassionate heart and unwavering commitment to the welfare of all citizens, regardless of faith," Shuaibu said. "By reaching out to our mothers and sisters during this sacred celebration, you have fostered unity, peace, and harmony within our communities."

He prayed for God to grant her continued wisdom and strength in her service to humanity.
