The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, and his Vice, Hon. Rhoda Ashong today led the people of Obudu in a grand celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The colourful event, which held at the Obudu Township Stadium, was marked by spirited matchpass, cultural displays, and inter-school activities that showcased the rich talents of learners across the Local Government Area.

In his Independence Day address, Hon. Undiandeye paid glowing tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers whose sacrifices laid the foundation of the nation’s sovereignty. He called on citizens to draw inspiration from their courage and resilience in building a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria. The Chairman further commended the Federal and State Governments for ongoing reforms and development efforts, pledging that Obudu LGA will continue to key into policies that bring progress to the grassroots.

Highlighting the role of education in shaping the future, the Council Chairman stressed that the active participation of schools in the anniversary celebrations was a deliberate choice to inspire young people to embrace patriotism, discipline, and service to the nation. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving learning conditions through the Back-to-School programme, provision of instructional materials, and other educational interventions.

The celebration witnessed match-past displays by primary and secondary schools, traditional dances from cultural troupes, and presentations by youth groups. Prizes were awarded to outstanding schools, adding excitement to the occasion and reinforcing the spirit of healthy competition.

The event was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, religious heads, youth organizations, women groups, and a large turnout of community members who joined in the festivities.
