Following the recent exuberant increase in fuel prices by independent petroleum marketers in Obudu Local Government Area, which prompted a joint peaceful protest by youths and the Consumers Protection Committee, the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has demonstrated proactive leadership and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Obudu residents.
During a crucial meeting held at the Council Secretariat with key stakeholders and the Executive of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Obudu Chapter, the issue of arbitrary fuel price increases was thoroughly discussed. It was observed that petrol (PMS) was being sold at prices significantly higher than the Federal Government’s approved rate and above what was obtainable in neighbouring Local Government Areas.
After extensive deliberations, the meeting reached a resolution to immediately review the pump price downward, from ₦980 to ₦950 per litre, with a further reduction to follow in two weeks. The resolution takes effect from Saturday, October 4th, 2025.
Hon. Undiandeye commended the marketers for their cooperation and sense of responsibility, noting that dialogue and understanding remain the most effective tools for resolving community challenges. He reiterated the Council’s determination to sustain a fair and transparent business environment that safeguards consumer interests while supporting legitimate enterprise.
“The welfare of our people remains the cornerstone of this administration,” Hon. Undiandeye emphasized. “We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that essential commodities remain accessible and affordable for every Obudu citizen.”
The Council also appreciates the patience and understanding of the public during the process and urges all petrol stations to comply strictly with the agreed pricing framework.
Enforcement teams of IPMAN and Council's Consumer Protection Committee have been mandated to monitor compliance across the Local Government Area to ensure full adherence.
