The Governor of Cross River State and Visitor to the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has received the report of the Technical Committee on the Review of the Working Environment in the university, assuring staff and students of his administration’s commitment to their welfare.
Governor Otu received the report on Monday, September 28, 2026, from the Chairman of the Committee, Bishop Prof. Uduak Effiong, at a ceremony attended by members of the State Executive Council, the UNICROSS Governing Council, management and representatives of the university’s industrial unions.
The Governor had inaugurated the committee on July 6, 2026, with a mandate to comprehensively assess the university and make recommendations for addressing challenges affecting its working environment and operations.
Receiving the report, Otu commended Bishop Effiong and members of the committee for their dedication and commitment to the assignment.
He assured the university community that he would carefully study the report, particularly the issues raised concerning the welfare of staff and students.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the continued development of UNICROSS, saying the State Government would provide the necessary support to strengthen the institution and enable it to continue serving as a centre of learning and manpower development for Cross River State.
Otu said that after studying the report and consulting relevant stakeholders, the State Government would reconvene to consider the recommendations and determine the way forward.
Presenting the report, Bishop Effiong expressed appreciation to the Governor for the confidence reposed in the committee and the opportunity to undertake the assignment.
He also commended the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Francisca Bassey, for her cooperation and support throughout the committee’s engagement with the university.
The presentation of the report marks a further stage in the State Government’s intervention in the affairs of UNICROSS, with the recommendations expected to guide discussions on improving the university’s working environment and addressing issues affecting its community.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Cross River State Executive Council; members of the UNICROSS Governing Council led by its Chairman, Ntufam Dr. Fidelis Ugbo; the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, and members of the university management, as well as executive council members of the industrial unions in UNICROSS.
