The Cross River State Police Command has announced a routine shooting range exercise scheduled to hold in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism, operational readiness and public safety.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the exercise is slated for Tuesday, January 27, 2026, beginning at 8:00am, at Asabanka, Anyanganse Community.
The Command explained that the training forms part of continuous capacity-building for police personnel, including the retraining of officers and inspection of service arms and other operational equipment, in line with standard policing practices.
Residents have been assured that the exercise is strictly routine and should not cause alarm, despite the anticipated increase in police presence or the sound of gunfire during the training.
However, the Police advised residents, farmers and passersby to keep away from the shooting range and its immediate surroundings for the duration of the exercise, noting that the precaution is necessary to prevent accidental exposure to stray bullets and to reduce psychological distress.
The statement stressed that adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure the exercise is conducted in a controlled and professional manner, with public safety remaining the Command’s top priority.
The Cross River State Police Command thanked members of the public for their understanding and cooperation, while reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
