The Cross River State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state, deploying intelligence-driven strategies and coordinated actions to combat violent crimes and enhance public safety.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua. The statement noted that the Command has rolled out enhanced measures following a comprehensive review of its security architecture, with a renewed focus on proactive policing and intelligence gathering.
According to the Command, the initiative aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating Commands nationwide to reinforce visibility policing and strengthen community collaboration in addressing security threats.
As part of the coordinated crackdown, the Police have intensified patrols across Area Commands, Divisions, waterways, and other strategic locations. This includes enhanced stop-and-search operations on major highways and entry and exit routes, as well as sustained day and night patrols and joint operations with other security agencies.
The Command said the renewed operational focus targets the disruption of criminal networks, maintenance of law and order, and prevention of unlawful activities through intelligence-led raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts.
Targeted operations are ongoing in high-risk areas such as Calabar metropolis, Akpabuyo, Odukpani, Akamkpa, Ikom, Obubra, Ogoja, and other border communities, with a view to dismantling kidnapping syndicates, curbing cult-related activities, and tackling armed robbery and other violent crimes.
To further strengthen community policing, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been directed to convene stakeholders’ meetings with traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to enhance intelligence gathering and promote collective responsibility for security.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, CP Afegbua emphasized that effective policing requires the continued support and cooperation of the public.
