Police Send Strong Warning with Arrest of Gun Suspect in Ikom

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Ukong Abraham, for unlawful possession of a firearm and related offences in Ikom Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command disclosed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 15, 2026, by a 22-year-old woman, Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect assaulted her, causing bodily harm.

Acting swiftly on the report, operatives from the Ikom Police Division moved to invite the suspect for questioning, but he reportedly fled upon sighting the police team.

The Command, however, noted that through a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation, the suspect was tracked and apprehended. A search conducted during interrogation led to the recovery of a locally made pistol in his possession.

The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of his activities and any possible links to other criminal offences.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command warned that it will not relent in its crackdown on criminal elements, particularly the illegal possession of arms, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
