The attention of the Obudu Local Government Council has been drawn to circulating reports suggesting that Mr. Windy was attacked on his way from Gboko to Obudu due to unresolved communal issues between two communities.
We wish to categorically state that this claim is entirely false, misleading, and does not reflect the facts on ground. The said incident has no connection whatsoever to the peace process or to issues that have already been peacefully resolved between the concerned communities.
It is also important to clarify that Mr. Windy never identified himself as an indigene or resident of Obudu, and as such, there was no basis or motive for any targeted action against him by any group, contrary to the claims being circulated.
Nevertheless, in line with our responsibility to protect all persons traveling through or into our local government, the Obudu Local Government Council promptly mobilized the Divisional Security Officer (DSO) and the Community Relations Officer (CRO), who, on the directive of the Council Chairman, moved alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Obudu to meet with the DPO of Vandeikya and visit the exact location where the incident was reported. Our findings confirm that the situation was grossly misrepresented and has no link to any ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts between the affected communities/LGAs
The Council remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace, ensuring security, and fostering unity among our people and neighboring communities. We strongly urge the general public to disregard any attempts to stoke tension through misinformation or unverified narratives.
For further clarification, please contact the Office of the Chief Press Secretary or the Special Adviser on Peace and Security.
