The Forum of Commissioners in Cross River State on Wednesday elected Prof. Stephen Odey, Commissioner for Education, as its new Chairman.
The election followed a unanimous decision by members to change leadership in order to reposition the Forum for a more robust and result-oriented trajectory.
The seat had remained vacant for several months following the resignation of Mr. Victor-Felix Idem, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs.
The Vice Chairman and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, who officially announced the vacancy, presided over the election of the new leadership.
The newly elected executive members are: Chairman: Sen. Prof. Stephen Odey, Vice Chairman: Hon. Edema Irom, Secretary: Pst. Hon. Ekpenyong Cobham, Welfare Officer: Hon. Dr. Helen Egodo, Financial Secretary: Hon. Etieka Lawrentia Ita and Treasurer: Capt. Eno Inah (Rtd) while Publicity Secretary: Hon. Patrick Egede.
Members also observed a moment of silence and commiserated with the Governor and the people of Cross River State over the passing of their colleague, Hon. Dr. Eka Williams, who served as Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy.
The forum later paid a condolence visit to the Governor's residence, where the Forum briefed His Excellency on the outcomes of the meeting and received remarks on the way forward.
