Prof. Odey Reaffirms Commitment to Collaborate with Local Government Education Supervisors

Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Supervisors of Education across the 18 local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the supervisors to the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Calabar, Tuesday.

Senator Odey emphasized the importance of teamwork between the Ministry and local government education authorities to advance education in the State.

While stressing that though they operate under local government councils, they remain vital partners in implementing education reforms and providing oversight in schools, the Commissioner announced plans to convene a joint meeting with all 18 LGA Education Supervisors to chart a unified course for educational growth and development in the State.

Odey praised the Supervisors for their commitment and expressed gratitude for their visit, noting that their readiness to collaborate aligns with the Ministry’s vision for educational advancement across the State.

Senator Odey stated, "My jurisdiction does not directly control you, but we can work together as stakeholders to enhance education in the state. Supervisors are encouraged to engage with Executive Secretaries, conduct oversight visits to schools, assess conditions, and submit reports to the Ministry for appropriate action."

He noted that many local government chairmen have not fully embraced their roles in supporting basic education and pledged to continue engaging them to strengthen collaborative efforts at that level.

The Commissioner assured the Supervisors that the Ministry would begin sending memos to local government chairmen to bolster their involvement and ensure that Education Supervisors are effectively integrated into the state’s education management system.

In highlighting their courage and commitment, Senator Odey revealed plans to convene a larger meeting with all Supervisors of Education from the 18 local government areas to establish a unified path forward.

He expressed his belief in teamwork, stating, "I don’t have down moments; I work very hard. When I see people willing to collaborate, I align with them. Together, we can achieve more for the advancement of education in Cross River State."

He assured the Supervisors that their concerns and suggestions would be thoughtfully considered, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive, results-driven educational reforms.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the Supervisors, Hon. E.M. Mojafu-Ekpang congratulated Prof. Odey on achieving remarkable academic excellence, describing him as "a professor of the highest order," whose accomplishments are due to his diligence and dedication.

Hon. Mojafu-Ekpang acknowledged Senator Odey for his groundbreaking initiatives aimed at revitalizing the education sector in Cross River State. He assured the Commissioner of the Supervisors' unwavering support for the new education policy introduced by the Ministry and emphasized their commitment to adhering to its guidelines.

The group also expressed a unanimous vote of confidence in the Commissioner.
