The September edition of the Cross River State Government’s Monthly Aerobics and Medical Checks has recorded one of its largest turnouts yet, as civil servants and other participants turned out in impressive numbers to exercise, undergo basic health checks and promote a culture of wellness in the Public Service.
Held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, the programme featured energetic aerobics, a city walk and medical checks, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and active participation among workers.
The impressive turnout further underscored the growing acceptance of the monthly initiative, which was introduced to encourage physical fitness, preventive healthcare and improved wellbeing among civil servants.
Speaking on the programme, Mrs. Martina Okpako of the Ministry of Agriculture described the monthly aerobics as an activity she has come to embrace wholeheartedly, saying she now looks forward to it every month.
According to her, the programme has become part of her routine and provides an opportunity to exercise, interact with colleagues and pay greater attention to personal health.
The health component of the programme also received a boost with the participation of the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency (CRSHIA).
The Director of Administration, Cross River State Health Insurance Agency, Mrs. Aje Asam Ajuk, was on ground to provide health insurance registration forms and sensitise participants on the importance of having access to healthcare coverage.
Participants also benefited from basic medical checks conducted during the programme, with health personnel attending to workers and encouraging them to take preventive healthcare seriously.
Speaking during the event, the Head of Service, Cross River State, Orok Bassey Okon Esq., reiterated the administration’s commitment to sustaining the initiative, stressing that the monthly aerobics has come to stay.
The Head of Service urged every civil servant to key into the programme, participate actively and contribute to making it even better.
He noted that beyond physical exercise, the initiative promotes a healthier and more productive workforce, encouraging workers to make wellness an integral part of their lives.
The September edition ended on a high note, with participants demonstrating renewed enthusiasm and a strong sense of community, reinforcing the vision of building a healthier, more energetic and productive Cross River State Public Service.
