The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has charged staff of the Assembly to embrace diligence, hard work, and patience in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during a general staff meeting held at the mini auditorium of the Assembly Complex in Calabar, the Speaker urged staff to handle information within the work environment with an open mind and a commitment to truth.
Addressing issues around the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure [CONLESS], Rt. Hon. Ayambem called on new staff to exercise patience, noting that there are defined steps and career progression in the civil service which must be.adhere to at all times.
In his words to the new staff: “If it has not reached you, it has not passed you.”
The Speaker also cautioned strongly against rumor mongering and unhealthy rivalry among staff. He decried unnecessary complaints and warned against the peddling of unverified information.
While acknowledging concerns raised by some staff over some welfare issues, the Speaker appealed for patience. He assured the workforce of his commitment to staff welfare.
Rt. Hon. Ayambem further stressed the need for increased hard work and for staff to adopt dialogue as the proper channel for resolving internal issues rather than engaging in rumour mongering and discord.
Also speaking, the Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs Catherine Ubi (Esq) commended the Speaker for his fatherly disposition in handling staff matters. She thanked the Speaker for several welfare packages extended to staff and reiterated the need for staff to reciprocate through hardwork to facilitate the smooth running of the Assembly.
The meeting featured an interactive session which provided an avenue for staff to express their concerns while the leadership reaffirmed its commitment to providing a productive work environment in the Assembly.
