Suspended Cross River Lawmaker in Police Custody Over Alleged Assault

A member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ovat Dickson Agbor, who was recently suspended by the Assembly over allegations of assaulting his wife, is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the development, stating that the lawmaker is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

“Yes, he is in SCID undergoing interrogation,” the police spokesperson said when contacted for confirmation.

The arrest follows public outcry over allegations that the suspended lawmaker assaulted his wife, a development that had earlier prompted the Cross River State House of Assembly to take disciplinary action by suspending him pending further investigation.

Police sources indicate that investigators are currently questioning the lawmaker as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

Authorities say the outcome of the ongoing interrogation will determine the next line of action, including possible legal proceedings if sufficient evidence is established.

The Cross River State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter in line with the law.
