UNICROSS Begins First Semester Exams as Stability Returns to Varsity

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has commenced its first semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session, signaling a return to stability in the institution and a major step toward completing the semester in line with the institution’s revised academic calendar.

Final year students across various departments began writing their examinations on Monday after the university adjusted the schedule to allow students complete critical registration requirements.

The examinations were originally slated to begin on February 23, 2026, but were later postponed to March 9 following a directive contained in Circular No. 508 issued on February 17 by the Registrar, Catherine Osai.

In the circular, the Registrar explained that the adjustment was necessary to provide students adequate time to complete their course registration processes, while also enabling newly admitted students to finalize their registration formalities.

She further noted that the rescheduling would give students sufficient time to obtain their institutional identification cards, which are mandatory for entry into examination halls.

The smooth commencement of the examinations has brought relief to the university community, particularly following the resolution of concerns earlier raised by non-academic staff over delayed salary payments.

The staff had protested the delay in salary payments, raising uncertainty about the conduct of the examinations. However, with the salaries now paid up to date, non-academic staff resumed duties, creating a conducive environment that facilitated the seamless start of the examination exercise.

The Vice Chancellor, Francisca Bassey, and the university management had earlier stressed the need to sustain uninterrupted academic activities and ensure that examinations are conducted as scheduled so that students, especially the graduating class, remain on track with their academic timelines.
