The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has commenced the distribution of newly procured modern office furniture to senior staff of the institution as part of efforts to improve working conditions and boost morale across its campuses.
The furniture, provided through the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was formally presented to beneficiaries during a brief ceremony held on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Beneficiaries of the initiative include Professors, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, as well as senior academic and non-academic staff of the university. The intervention is aimed at enhancing office facilities and strengthening administrative efficiency within various departments of the institution.
Speaking during the presentation, Prof. Bassey urged the beneficiaries to ensure proper maintenance and careful handling of the furniture, stressing that the initiative reflects the management’s commitment to creating a conducive environment that supports quality teaching, impactful research, and efficient service delivery.
She noted that improving staff working conditions remains a priority of the university’s leadership, adding that the provision of modern office equipment would contribute significantly to productivity and institutional growth.
According to the Vice Chancellor, a similar distribution exercise was carried out last year for departments whose programmes were visited by accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The items distributed during the current phase include executive office tables and chairs, bookshelves, cabinets, and refrigerators.
Prof. Bassey also disclosed that the next phase of the intervention will involve the distribution of computers to Heads of Departments who were not covered in the previous exercise, as well as to results portal desk officers and examination officers across the university.
She revealed that prior to the ongoing intervention, no Head of Department across the university’s three campuses had been officially assigned a computer for administrative duties, a gap the current management is determined to address.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the university’s Media Team commended the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to departmental operations.
They expressed confidence that the improved office facilities would not only enhance staff productivity but also strengthen administrative efficiency and service delivery across the institute.
