Obudu Council Chairman Marks Birthday with Students and Inmates

…Emphasizes compassion, service, and hope for all

The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, represented by his Vice Chairman, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, alongside the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), political appointees, and other council staff, on Monday marked his birthday in an uncommon fashion as he chose to celebrate the day with students of selected secondary schools and inmates of the Obudu Correctional Centre.

In a gesture that reflects his deep sense of humanity and commitment to community welfare, the council boss visited the correctional facility earlier in the day, where he donated essential food items, toiletries, and other relief materials to the inmates.

Addressing the inmates, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Rhoda Ashong, encouraged them to see their present situation as a temporary phase in life and to remain hopeful, assuring them of continued support from the present administration.

Receiving the delegation, the Officer in Charge of the Obudu Custodial Centre, CSC Emmanuel Esang, expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman and his team for the thoughtful visit and generous donations. He noted this is the first of its kind from the government body since he became in charge, as he advised that such gestures boost the morale of the inmates and foster a sense of inclusion and hope within the custodial community.

“We are deeply grateful to the Executive Chairman and his team for remembering this facility on such a special day. This act of compassion has left a lasting impression on both the inmates and the officers here,” CSC Esang said.

The team later proceeded to some secondary schools within the Local Government, where they interacted with students, presented educational materials, distributed sanitary pads to adolescent girls, and shared moments of joy and encouragement.

The Chairman, in his message, advised the students to remain focused on their studies, cultivate discipline, and strive for excellence as the leaders of tomorrow.

Speaking on the significance of his choice to celebrate with these groups, Hon. Undiandeye noted that birthdays should be moments of reflection and gratitude, and that true celebration lies in touching lives and spreading hope.

“I chose to celebrate this year with those who often feel forgotten, our students and the inmates, because I believe every life deserves a reason to smile. Leadership is not about comfort, but compassion,” he said.

The day’s activities were rounded off with prayers and goodwill messages from members of his cabinet, staff of the council, and well-wishers who commended his humility and people-centered approach to leadership.
