Obudu Council Chairman, Undiandeye Bags National Merit Award

...dedicates award to Governor Otu and the people of Obudu

The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Council in Cross River State, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, KSM, has bagged the 2025 Nigerian Local Government Merit Award (LOGMA) as the Best Performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria (Infrastructure Development).

In his welcome address at the event, which held on Wednesday at the National Merit House, Abuja, the National Coordinator of LOGMA, Chief Bayode Ojo, stated that the award was designed to showcase the achievements of local government chairmen and reward excellence in grassroots governance - particularly those who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to promoting grassroots development despite the challenges confronting the third tier of government.

He congratulated all the award winners for making the final list after rigorous scrutiny and spot-checking of some of their executed projects to verify the authenticity of their claims. Chief Ojo further urged the awardees to continue to be shining examples of sustainable growth at the grassroots and in the country at large.

Speaking after being conferred with the prestigious award, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Undiandeye, KSM, applauded the organizers for recognizing his administration’s commitment to localizing good governance. He highlighted his leadership’s remarkable strides in building a sustainable, livable, and prosperous council area through numerous people-oriented programmes and projects-particularly in road infrastructure and the provision of basic social amenities.

While expressing deep appreciation to God for the recognition, Hon. Undiandeye dedicated the award to the Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and to the good people of Obudu Local Government Area. He expressed satisfaction with the honour but noted that he would feel truly fulfilled when Obudu is completely and positively transformed. He emphasized that the award would further spur him to work harder in pursuing people-centred programmes aligned with Governor Otu’s People First mantra and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Hon. Undiandeye also commended Governor Otu for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for local government administrations across the state. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening rural development, empowering youth and women, and ensuring the dividends of democracy reach every ward in Obudu.

In their separate goodwill messages, top government officials, including National Assembly members and other stakeholders, charged the awardees to recommit themselves to the principles of good governance, accountability, and service to the people. They noted that through these principles, a brighter future could be built for Nigeria, beginning from the local government level.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the symbolic presentation of the award (plague and certificate) to the Obudu Chairman by the Member representing Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Akpanke, on behalf of the organizers, as well as the formal launch of Landmark Magazine.
