Wife of Obudu Council Chairman Shares Sanitary Pads as Activities Mark the International Day of the Girl Child
The Wife of the Chairman, Obudu Local Government Area, Mrs. Undiandeye Regina Ukongbada, has officially flagged off activities to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, in solidarity with girls across Nigeria and the world.
Themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Front Lines of Crises,” this year’s celebration highlights the strength, resilience, and leadership potential of girls even in challenging times.
In her remarks at the event’s commencement, Mrs. Undiandeye emphasized the need to empower and educate the girl child to enable her to contribute meaningfully to community and national development. She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting girl child education, health, and safety within Obudu Local Government and beyond.
As part of the day’s activities, Mrs. Undiandeye distributed sanitary pads to schoolgirls to promote menstrual hygiene and reduce absenteeism among young girls during their menstrual cycle. She encouraged them to maintain good personal hygiene and to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.
The Chairman’s wife was accompanied by Hon. Serah David, Special Adviser on Women Mobilization (North), to the Governor, as well as some Councilors and other political appointees, who joined in encouraging the girls to remain focused and resilient in the pursuit of their goals.
The program, which aligns with the vision of Her Excellency, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, seeks to inspire girls to embrace confidence, leadership, and purpose-driven living.
The event featured motivational talks, mentorship sessions, and community outreach programs, all designed to raise awareness on the rights and potentials of the girl child.
