WIFE OF OBUDU COUNCIL CHAIRMAN LEADS VOTER REGISTRATION AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Mrs. Regina Peter Undiandeye, on Thursday led a team of prominent women, political leaders, and appointees on a voter registration awareness campaign across the Local Government Area.

The campaign, themed “Call Out All Eligible Voters”, was aimed at sensitizing residents, especially youths and women, on the importance of registering to vote ahead of future elections. The initiative emphasized that voter registration remains the first and most vital step toward meaningful participation in democratic governance.

She was joined by the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, Mrs. Sarah Amu Ogenye, Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation and Development (North), other state and local government political appointees, alongside several grassroots mobilizers. The team moved through key streets and communities, encouraging eligible citizens who had not yet registered or collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so immediately.

Speaking during the campaign, the Mrs, Regina noted that political awareness begins with civic responsibility. She urged residents to take ownership of their political future by ensuring that their voices are heard through the ballot box. She further stressed that voter apathy and negligence in registration only weaken collective representation and slow down developmental progress at the local and state levels.

In her words, “This campaign is not about politics; it’s about participation. Every vote counts, and every voice matters. Our democracy can only grow stronger when we all take part in shaping the leadership that determines our future.”

The Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with the government’s broader vision of citizen engagement and youth inclusion. He applauded the organizers for mobilizing the people of Obudu, particularly at the grassroots, to take proactive steps toward building a responsive and participatory democracy.

The campaign team also distributed informational flyers and engaged residents in open discussions on how to register, check their voter status, and locate registration centers across the LGA.

The voter registration awareness campaign is expected to continue in other wards of the Local Government in the coming days, as the council intensifies efforts to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind in the ongoing exercise.
