Residents of Ikot Asuquo Ukut Village in Atimbo Clan, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, have lauded Governor Bassey Otu for initiating plans to revive the long-abandoned General Hospital in the community, describing the move as a major milestone in the administration’s efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure and stimulate grassroots development.
The commendation was contained in a message dated June 17, 2026 and addressed to the Governor by the people of the community through the Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Engr. Prince Edem Ndem.
The community expressed profound appreciation for the government’s decision to revisit the abandoned hospital project, noting that the development has rekindled hope among residents who have long yearned for improved healthcare services and economic opportunities.
According to the message, the people are excited that the facility, which had remained dormant for years, is set to receive a new lease of life under the current administration.
They described the planned rehabilitation as a demonstration of Governor Otu’s commitment to inclusive development and the welfare of rural communities across the state.
The community further noted that upon completion, the hospital is expected to generate more than 500 jobs for youths and indigenes of Akpabuyo, while also serving as a catalyst for socioeconomic growth in the area.
They expressed optimism that the project would attract ancillary businesses, improve access to quality healthcare services and stimulate infrastructure development within the host community.
While commending the governor’s vision, the people appealed for the speedy completion of all administrative processes required for the commencement of work on the project.
They specifically urged the relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary documentation is finalized and that the contractor is mobilized without delay to facilitate timely execution of the project.
The community described the planned revival of the hospital as a historic intervention that would leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
“We are grateful that this development is happening in our generation. Thank you for your vision and commitment to the people,” the message stated.
Residents expressed confidence that the completion of the General Hospital project would significantly improve healthcare delivery in Akpabuyo and further advance the state’s health sector transformation agenda.
